       “If I were asked”, Pandit Nehru has said, “What is the greatest treasure which India possesses and what is her finest heritage, I would answer unhesitatingly that it is the Sanskrit language and literature and all that it contains.”
        This is indeed true. Because, if we think the wonderful thought which our ancestors put down in the early books at a time when the people of Europe were in their infancy, we can be justly proud of our heritage. What is this heritage?
        It is in the lovely lyric poetry of the Vedas. It is in the wise saying in the Upanisads. It is in the grand sweep of the epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. It is in the portrayal of the emotion and mood and character in the classical dramas of Kalidas, Bana, Harsha and Shudraka.
