1.     Why did Jagadish Chandra Bose receive his early education in a vernacular school?

Ø  Jagadish Chandra Bose received his early education in a vernacular school. Because his father believed that one must know one's mother tongue before learning any other language.

2.     What did Bose's mother do when he brought his friends home from school?

Ø  When Bose brought friends from school, Bose's mother welcomed and fed them all without discrimination.

3.     Who was Lafont? How did he influence Bose?

Ø  Lafont was a Jesuit father. Lafont played an important role in developing Bose's interest in natural science. Thus he influenced Bose.

4.     Why did Bose refuse to accept his salary?

Ø  Bose refused to accept his salary because he was offered a lower salary than his European colleagues and he was not provided facilities for research.

5.     What did Bose prove by his experiments on plants?

Ø  By his experiments on plants, Bose proved that plants are sensitive to heat, cold, light, noise and other external stimuli, just like human beings.

6.     Do you think Bose was uninterested about securing patency right? Why? 

Ø  Yes, Bose was uninterested about securing patency right. Bose did not want any commercial benefits from his experiments. He wanted others to advance further along the lines of his experiments.

Ø  In 1917, the British Government awarded him the 'Knighthood'. He also received other awards like 'Fellow of the Royal Society' and 'Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire'.

Ø  The Nervous Mechanism of Plants', 'Major Mechanism of Plants', 'Niruddesher Khonje'. He also published research papers in science journals.
